Mom, You're Not Alone
Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away, and if you are a mom, you may already be dropping hints about how you’d like to spend the day devoted to you. It’s fun to imagine an entire day off with breakfast in bed, time to yourself, and a few hours of peace and quiet.
But for some moms, this may not be possible. More and more moms are carrying the role of parenting all on their own. Even if you aren’t a single parent, the stress of two-income families means that parenting responsibilities sometimes fall more on one parent than the other. That can mean that mom gets little reprieve, on a normal Wednesday, let alone on Mother’s Day.
We moms are strong. We shoulder our responsibilities with few complaints. We know the work needs to be done. And we LOVE our kids.
But we can sometimes feel as though who we are as a “person” no longer matters. We can feel that our role as a parent is the only role we have. We can feel overwhelmed by the thought of raising the next generation. We can feel that we are on this journey alone.
Well, Mom, you are not alone. Whether you are an expecting parent, have a newborn, or are chasing after three toddlers, you share a similar path with other moms just like you. That’s why we offer a group that's all about holding space for you.
“Holding Space for Mom” is a four-week series (we ask for a commitment to attend all four weeks) that will allow you to gain connection, grounding, and the knowledge that you are not alone in navigating the challenges as a new or expecting parent. You will have the opportunity to integrate practical skills that support regulation and identify deeper themes that may be impacting your experience. Most of all, you’ll learn that you as a “person” matter, that your role as a parent may be one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs you’ll ever have, and that you don’t have to do everything by yourself.
This Mother’s Day, spend a little extra time in bed. Leave the dishes in the sink to be washed later. Let that unfolded laundry stay where it is. And consider joining our group. It’s time, don’t you think, to hold some space just for you?
