Talk therapy alone cannot heal the wounds that drive our dysfunction. Research across many different disciplines highlights the importance of utilizing approaches to healing that include top down and bottom up work to heal the body and the mind.

Our therapists are highly trained licensed clinicians from a variety of training backgrounds. Our foundational treatment model is Inner Child Experiential Family Systems and all therapists at The HC use this to conceptualize treatment plans and guide treatment. This 4-stage model was created by Amber Tolbert, LCSW, using principles of attachment theory, family systems theory, polyvagal theory, and somatic healing. Our model is action oriented experiential therapy, bringing you into connection with your body while creating containment for deeper healing to occur.

Our couples therapists utilize Relational Trauma Repair Sociometrics (RTR-S) in addition to our foundational treatment model. While our couples therapists may use elements of other couples therapy models such as The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, or Imago Relationship Therapy, RTR-S is our guiding light to support couples on their path towards healing. RTR-S involves embodied, research-based, experiential processes that are psycho-educational (TPN). RTR-S reaches the places where trauma is held in the body to build momentum for change, teach the skills of emotional regulation and emotional literacy, and allows our couples work more focused and contained, thereby creating more safety in the process.

Our model ensures that all of our therapists are trauma informed therapists, and several of our team members have received additional training in specialized trauma healing modalities, including EMDR. Our team is a true treatment team model and all of our team supports your treatment. If your primary clinician identifies a need for EMDR to support your process, they will bring in one of our EMDR therapists to complement the work you are doing.

The HC clinical team includes Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialists to support our model in addressing the numbing and medicating caused by trauma. Our LCAS team works within the treatment team to provide numbing and medicating assessments and provide education and support for those who are not working directly with a LCAS clinician.

Energy and right brain healers complement the continuum of care from a somatic perspective by supporting the body in creating and experiencing safety. Our healers are trained in a variety of modalities, including reiki, sound healing, MARI, art therapy, and music therapy. These members of our team support you process when you and your primary therapist collaboratively identify a need to support your energetic self through the process. If your primary therapist is part of our energy and right brain healing team, you are also able to utilize those modalities in any of your individual sessions.

In different parts of your treatment, your therapist may utilize techniques from other therapeutic modalities within our framework. This is the advantage of choosing a highly skilled and trained team of healers to support your process. Some of the other modalities our healers have training in include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Play Therapy, among others.

The Relationships

  • The relationship with self is the roadmap to the relationship with others.

  • Families are often the motivation to improve self and what brings us into therapy.

  • I teach people how to love me and I attract my equal level of health.

Numbing & Medicating

  • The definition of TRAUMA is about an experience, not about an event.

  • When we have been surviving we have to find a way to not feel the pain.

  • Doing all the wrong things for the right reasons while losing myself in the process.

Hard Emotions

  • The nervous system gets stuck in freeze as a result of trauma.

  • The nervous system lives in hyperarousal as a result of trauma.

  • Emotions are the numbing and medicating behavior that attempts to regulate me.

Somatic & Alternative

  • The nervous system needs more in order to support the bottom up healing necessary in recovery.

  • The subconscious knows what the conscious needs. We use MARI an creative and right brain assessment for you to gain insight into your life not easily accessed by your conscious state!

  • Right brain modalities support healing in a different way.

Need More Reasons Why WE are the best?

  • Relational trauma is caused by attachment wounds that occur early in our development, and they show up in our relationships in the present. We help heal those wounds so that relationships, including the relationship with yourself, improve.

  • Our 4 stage treatment model is based in action oriented therapy, not talk therapy. Our therapists collectively have 76 years in the field - you’re getting experienced clinicians with a wealth of training and personal recovery experience who know where they’re going with your treatment plan. Virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy when your therapist knows what they are doing.

  • What you pay is what you pay, no waiting for responses to insurance claims to see what they will actually cover, no waiting to see if a service you need is approved, and no fear that the insurance company will say “that’s enough.” C-PTSD stemming from relational trauma is complex and treatment needs to be flexible.

  • Even though you have a primary clinician, you have access to the expertise of all of our clinicians through co-facilitated sessions, co-occurring sessions, support groups, process groups, and recovery resources. Our treatment team meets twice weekly to ensure the collective is supporting your primary clinician in focusing treatment. Together we can do what we cannot do alone.

  • We provide multiple weekly free support groups for our clients to use to gain experience, strength, and hope. We also offer in-person workshop experiences to do deeper pieces of work in connection with safe people also in relational recovery. You will quickly see you are not alone and start to build healthy connections to support your recovery.
