Trauma-Informed Yoga

Trauma-Informed Yoga is a free offering to all of The Healing Collective clients.

Trauma-informed yoga arrived at The Healing Collective in 2020 in response to the collective trauma experienced by the world. We always knew that movement in the body was essential to processing stuck trauma and memories, and an opportunity came to explore how that would work with our healing community.

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach to yoga practice that recognizes and addresses the impact of trauma on the body, mind, and spirit. It integrates principles of trauma theory, mindfulness, and somatic psychology to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have experienced trauma. This approach emphasizes choice, empowerment, and autonomy, allowing participants to explore their bodies and sensations at their own pace and comfort level. Trauma-informed yoga instructors prioritize creating a space of non-judgment and compassion, offering modifications and alternatives to traditional yoga poses to ensure that individuals feel empowered and in control of their practice. Through mindful movement, breathwork, and grounding techniques, trauma-informed yoga aims to support healing and promote a sense of safety, connection, and resilience.

Trauma-informed yoga is offered in our recovery library, a tool made available to all of The Healing Collective’s clients for the duration of their work with our healers. Classes focus on learning to be in the body, utilizing gentle movements and opportunities for integration.
