How I support you in your recovery
I am a believer that the word “should” is really problematic. Why “should” things be this way or that way? Who told you that? Expectations placed upon us from well-meaning friends and family, society, social media, and generational “that’s how our family does it” messages keep us trapped in dysfunction. It’s hard to step into our authentic selves when we are trapped by the ideas of who we “should” be. I support you in learning the “why” behind the dysfunction you’re experiencing. I will help shine the light while you uncover the historic origins of your present pain and support you in stepping into the fullness life has to offer on the other side.
How I support you in building a relationship with self
It’s easy to sacrifice for others - that’s what dysfunction teaches and reinforces. It’s so much harder to put self first because that comes with guilt and shame for chronic people pleasers - and we will do anything and everything to avoid and numb those feelings. I help you learn what it means to have a relationship with self, build the trust and safety necessary to make that the most important relationship in your life, and support you in walking out that newly discovered power as you work to create authenticity and accountability in the relationships around you.
My personal recovery journey
My first counseling experience in college for anxiety and panic attacks set me on a journey that eventually led me to recovery. I was given the gift of ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families) in 2017. I didn’t understand at first how I qualified, we never even had alcohol in my house growing up! I came to see how the inheritance of generational dysfunction, alcoholism in previous generations, and lots of other ways of numbing (work, religion, codependency, perfection, control, etc.) led to the dysfunction I was experiencing in all areas of my life. The dysfunction didn’t disappear, it just changed how it showed up in each generation. I now walk my own recovery path of emotional sobriety and show up as a Fellow Traveler with my clients.
My experience
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina, and a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health in Delaware. I have been in the field for 13 years in a variety of settings. I obtained my master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Carolina in 2011 and joined The HC in 2017. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Columbia College in 2010 majoring in Music. I am certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International and am EMDR trained through an EMDRIA approved program. I am also an energy healer trained in Holy Fire Reiki and a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level. I am an experiential psychotherapy practitioner with a special interest in the energetic self and its role in recovery.
More about me
My two favorite roles are mom to my little girl and wife to my husband. I’m also a mom of two furbabies, a Shetland Sheepdog and a shorthair cat, and they love to hear “let’s go to work” before heading to my office for a day of healing. I’m pretty sure I am never more than a few feet away from an assortment of crystals or an oracle card deck and am the girl who likes to tell people which planets are making them sad. I love weightlifting, the Eagles and Phillies, hikes with my family, urban fantasy novels, and trying all the hidden gems my foodie husband finds everywhere we visit.

Fire
“I am a fire sign, and fire is the energy that makes life exciting. I follow the flames to support me in seeing what needs to be cleared out and made anew.”
