Our hearts break for the students, families, staff, school, and the whole Pine Ridge Middle School community, as well as the first responders and everyone involved in this horrific bus crash in Chester County. Our Director of Clinical Services at The Healing Collective, Amanda Enlow, was honored to speak with Glenn Counts and WSOC TV about the lingering impact this type of traumatic event can have upon the nervous system.

The traditional definition of trauma is an event, but in reality trauma is an experience. Two people in the same place at the same time who encounter the same thing can experience the trauma completely different. One person may experience it as trauma while the other person may not.

Trauma can be a life altering experience not just for those immediately suffering the loss of a loved one, but also those that miss that student each day. These students, teachers, and families need the space to grieve the loss, to celebrate the gift of the precious little person who is no longer here, and to hold space to support the precious little ones who are currently suffering physical and emotional injury from this horrible event. None of that can happen until the stage of shock has processed, and that timeline is different for every single person.

As trauma specialists, we work with individuals, couples, and families with traumas they experience in childhood that are impacting present day life and/or relationships. Healing is absolutely possible and healing is a process, not a checklist.

Permission to give space to your grief and allow for whatever timeline your nervous system is on.
