Groups & Workshops

At The Healing Collective, we believe we are not meant to heal alone.
We are wired for relationship, for resonance, for being witnessed in our truth.

Healing happens in connection.

At the beginning of COVID, The Healing Collective started free support groups for our client community and has maintained them given the sustained level of participation. All our support groups, like all our services, are virtual and are open to clients currently being served or those who have been served by The Healing Collective. This opportunity allows our clients to access multiple environments to practice our proprietary treatment model—a model of connection and embodied recovery.

Our groups and workshops offer relational, experiential spaces where healing moves beyond insight and into lived, embodied change.

For Current Clients

The primary support group we offer is Connecting for Recovery. It is a free support group for any client served by HC. The intention of this support group is to offer recovery topics, descriptions, and examples to those in any form of recovery. While our culture often refers to “recovery” solely to those suffering from substance use or abuse disorders, we define recovery as “working toward our truest and highest state while accepting all versions of myself it took for me to get there.” Therefore, any client identifying as being “in recovery” is welcome and included. The states of recovery are universal, and our language applies to all types: eating disorders, substance use disorders, sexual abuse survivorship, codependency, alcoholism, workaholism, etc. While there are different treatments for different types of recovery, the root is the same: connection.

Free Virtual Support Groups

Benefits of our virtual support groups include:

  • Clients who are also mothers do not have to leave home to prioritize their well-being.
  • Clients who travel for work can log in from anywhere to gain connection and support from their recovery community.
  • Clients who work alternative shifts are able to take breaks and log in on their phone to stay connected.
  • All our support groups are free, and clients can attend as many as they wish.
  • We record the recovery message from each group and upload it to our recovery library for on-demand access.
  • Full anonymity is maintained, as cameras are not required to be on, and sharing is not mandatory.

Structured, experiential group therapy for deeper healing.

Another group service offered to The Healing Collective clients is our 8-week group therapy series.

This closed community is open to anyone interested in our healing modalities who are in a current therapeutic relationship with a member of our team or our networking partners. This virtual group series is led by two of The Healing Collective’s group facilitators. Group therapy is a vital component of our treatment model, as research shows it is the most effective form of treatment. Our groups are facilitated using an integrative, holistic approach to support the “whole person” in recovery. All of our clients participate in group therapy at some point, as it provides the opportunity to experience healthy connection and relationships.

Group Therapy: 8-Week Series

Our 8-week group therapy series is facilitated virtually once a quarter year-round.

Many clients participate in group therapy more than once because it becomes a community, a place to belong, and an opportunity to build the relationships we crave. We do not offer curriculum groups or process groups; all our group therapy services use experiential modalities that allow clients to have an experience. This is vital because, as humans, we only process information in two ways: one is cognitive, learning through our brain from teaching experiences, and the other is emotional, where we learn through our body where the root of the pain lives. In all our services, we provide Top Down and Bottom Up healing so the whole person can heal. Talk therapy is beneficial for some clients; however, our clients are often in need of deeper healing and long-term transformation, not just a quick fix.

This is how we provide holistic care: not just teaching and understanding the 'why' behind the behavior, but also creating the neural pathways that allow this to become a natural behavior.

The Speakeasy is more recovery-focused and less pathology-focused. These communities create long-term relationships for participants, creating opportunities to develop emotional intimacy and connection. Recovery is not about being able to handle the chaos; it is about being able to invite in the joy. Sometimes the difficulty in a relationship is due to the level of vulnerability required to be in that relationship. These virtual communities create a safe space for our clients to continue developing safe, healthy, long-term relationships.

Both Speakeasy communities are led by two of our group facilitators and require a 3-month commitment, meeting once a month virtually. Topics covered include Emotional Intimacy, Healthy Connection, Relationship with Self, and Emotional Sobriety. These are closed groups, which means that once a session begins, new members must wait until the next opening date to join. Anyone in the community can join, and it is recommended that participants identify with “living in recovery.”

Recovery-focused community for integration and connection.

We offer another option to the community on a monthly basis to support the intention of connection. These options are for our clients who have experienced our treatment model and are in integration work rather than transformation. This is intentionally offered as Women’s and Men’s so there is a container and safety in speaking into all the roles clients have—such as “husband,” “wife,” “mother,” and “father.”

Multi-Day Group Immersions

Workshops are multi-day group immersions that create an experience for deeper work. Intensives also create avenues for deeper healing; however, they will only focus on one story and one perspective.
Participating in a workshop gives participants the opportunity to witness passively, a healing work that is contagious. We follow a principle about trauma that states, “We are wounded in private, and we heal in community.” We adopt this principle because one can't heal trauma through self-help books. Our survival mechanisms block us from transforming the experience. While humans do have the ability to heal the self, we are also wired for connection. To heal from a past experience, one needs to be in a relationship with another person to give the body the space to have the experience without survival mechanisms taking over. A real-life example of this is that a surgeon can't perform surgery on themselves.

Workshops: In-Person Group Immersion

Deeper healing requires deeper interventions, and those are facilitated in a safe environment with established and earned trust.

Our workshops are led by Amber and are typically 2.5 days long. The experience creates an opportunity for passive learning (witnessing) or active learning (participation).

Your level of participation is entirely up to you. The group works together for the full 2.5-day experience, and often the outcome of the workshop is “transformation” of whatever level one is seeking. Much like with any therapeutic service, participants will receive only what they offer. The facilitator is only meant to be a guide. Many clients who attend these workshops participate in many of them. Because the workshop is experiential, it offers all components based on the needs of the group; therefore, no two workshops are the same.

“The work,” as labeled in workshops, is rooted in the principle: “I am who I am because of where I come from.” While it’s not my fault what I had to experience, and many of the traumatic experiences I had I didn't ask for, it becomes my responsibility to heal my body. These workshops create that opportunity. One will keep repeating patterns they are stuck in until the unhealed wounds in their body are repaired. Therefore, their past will continue to show up in their present until healing creates the new behaviors.

Testimonials

“It's hard to imagine where my life would be without recovery at this point as I'm certain it's saved my marriage, relationship with my children, and my life. I've learned how to feel, love myself, have more grace and compassion, and break the cycle of dysfunction.”

“My life feels more fulfilled. I have tools to help regulate emotions and triggers. I have started to use my voice and implement boundaries to keep me and my little girl safe.”

“There is a way out and it is through the pain, something I avoided for decades, and couldn't do alone. I had no idea how freeing feeling and walking through the pain with others who know that pain could be.”

“Be patient with yourself; you didn't get here in a day, or a week, or even a year. It's not your fault. Be open and honest...to thine own self be true. Recovery really isn't a journey, its a lifestyle and it has its ups and downs but its a helluva lot better than where you're coming from - it is for me.”

“The work may seem exhausting at times but it's totally worth the healing and connections you build as a result of working with The HC.”

“I know that I didn't know where to start; I just knew that I needed help. And I'm so grateful and thankful for Amber and The Healing Collective for guiding me through this journey. I have continued to challenge myself more and more over the past 8+ years and while it's the hardest work I have ever done, it's so worth it. When I'm not sure what to do next, I trust the process.”

“Lives are being saved at Healing Collective - and I love how my mind has been changed just from knowing/interacting with the team/other clients.”
